MAVERICK BASEBALL HALL OF FAME
WESLEY PHILLIPS 2009 - 2012
Wes Phillips was an eleven-time letter winner (baseball 4, basketball 3, football 4.) He helped the Mavericks to a 56-30 four-year record including a pair of league titles (2011, 2013), two regional championships (2012-13), and was a state qualifier twice (2012-13.) During his four-year tenure under coach Chad Christensen, batted .378 (108-for-286) with eight home runs and 68 RBI. Phillips collected 31 extra-base hits (17 doubles, 6 triples, 8 home runs) and scored 105 runs, walked 50 times, and stole 52 of 55 bases in 85 career games. Phillips was a member of the first team in program history as a freshman where he batted .262 (17-for-65) with two home runs, two doubles, and 10 RBI. Phillips scored 20 runs and was a perfect 13 of 13 on the base paths. He followed his rookie season earning the first of three consecutive first-team all-league honors as a shortstop where he batted .341 (29-for-85) with four doubles, 11 RBI, 19 runs, and stole 13 of 15 bases. During his junior campaign, he received his first of two-straight all-state selections batting an impressive .441 (30-for 65) with two home runs, five doubles, two triples, and 16 RBI. He scored 33 runs and stole 6 of 7 bases. He closed out his prep career hitting at a .471 (32-for-68) on his way to AVCTL Player-of-the-Year honors. During the season he belted a career-high four home runs to go along with six doubles and four triples and drove in 23 runs while scoring 33 as the team captain. He was a perfect 20 of 20 on the base paths. On the mound, he allowed one unearned run on four hits recording 13 strikeouts in 7.0 innings. In the Regional Championship, he batted .800 (4-for-5) with a pair of home runs and tossed two shutout innings in the Regional Championship Game picking up the win in relief. He earned the Kansas Association Baseball Coaches All-State, Wichita Eagle All-Metro. Maize South High School Senior Male Athlete of the Year in 2013. KANE MCCARTHY 2010 - 2013
Kane McCarthy was a member of the first freshmen class to graduate from Maize South. Kane not only pitched for the Mavericks but also played middle infield his junior and senior years. Kane went on to play at Pratt Community College and finished his career at Newman University. Kane was a 3-year 1st team All AVCTL pitcher and a 2013 2nd Team All-State pitcher. Kane still holds the record for most career wins at 13, career strikeout leader with 130, 3rd in ERA at 3.05. Kane, along with his other pitching teammates were a vital part of the Maverick's early success and its runs to the state tournament. |
TANER THURAMAN 2009 - 2012
Taner was a 3 year lettermen for the Mavericks. In 2012 he was named 1st Team All-State catcher, 4A Player of the Year, Wichita Eagle All Metro Player, and Region 5 Catcher of the Year.

CREIGHTON HOOVER 2010 - 2011
Creighton was one of the first 3 seniors during the first season in Maverick Baseball History. Creighton went on to play college baseball at Pratt CC and then Grambling State University.

KORD SANDERS 2010 - 2011
Kord was one of the first 3 seniors during the first season in Maverick Baseball History. Kord received honors in 2011 for 1st team all state 3rd baseman in 4A. Kord went on to play college baseball at Pratt CC.

ZACH KELLER 2010 - 2011
Zach was one of the first 3 seniors during the first saeason in Maverick Baseball History. Zach was honored in 2011 as a 2nd team all state pitcher. Zach went on to play college baseball at Dodge City CC.

NATE MCBROOM 2012-2015
Nate McBroom was a member of the Maverick baseball program from 2012-2015. In his two years with the varsity program, Nate amassed 8 wins (currently tied 3rd in the record books) and ended his senior season with a 7-1 record (tied in the record books for 1st with most wins in a season) helping Mavericks to an 18 win season and a 4th place finish in the 5A state tournament. Nate also finished with a 2nd team all-state pitcher nod in 2015. Nate went on to play for 2 years at Pratt Community College before moving on to pitch at Indiana Tech where he helped lead the Warriors to a conference championship and the right to play in the NAIA World Series in 2019. |
DRAKE BLISS 2012-2015
Drake Bliss played for the Mavericks from 2012-2015. Drake was named 5A Second All-State Shortstop and Wichita Eagle All-Metro player in 2015. Drake still holds the record for most singles in a season and is 3rd for most stolen bases in a season. After finishing his career, Drake went on to play baseball at Barton County Community College and finished his career at Emporia State University. |
